  • Preparing for the Emerald Ash Borer in Your Community

    Municipalities, public entitites, and industries are invited to learn to identify and mitigate the damage caused by the emerald ash borer.  Experts will explain the impact of emerald ash borer to community forests and governmental budgets, how to prepare for EAB before and once it is detected in your community and county, and your role and responsibility with this issue. The program will be held from 1-4:30pm (registration starting at 12:30) on June 7 2017, at the Troy Community Building (1225 Last Chance Rd, Troy KS 66087).     Homeowners, landowners, and the general public are invited to learn about the Emerald Ash Borer, its threat to local trees, and effects on what we can move and do in the county. Learn how to identify the insects, detect when they’re damaging a tree, and what to do about it. Homeowners, landowners, and concerned citizens are invited to attend this informational event.   • Riverside High School Haunted House

      Riverside Drama will be hosting its 3rd Annual Haunted House on Friday, October 27th and Saturday, October 28th from 7pm-11pm. This high school zombie-themed tour will begin at the front doors of Riverside high school in Wathena and wind around the themed hallways and theatre.  Cost: General admission is $3 per person. Groups of 3-4 who are up for an interactive challenge can enter the 5-minute escape room for an additional $5 per group.  There are no age restrictions. The scare-factor is comparable to the Worlds of Fun Haunt experience. We will be offering glow necklaces to groups with younger children who would like a toned-down experience.  This student-created project serves as a kick-off to the school's Thespian troupe #7953 community service project, Trick-or-Treat ...

    We are pleased to announce that the Doniphan County Chamber of Commerce, the Economic Development Office, Library District #1 and Highland Community College will be hosting a career fair on November 2, 2017 from 9am-11am at Highland Community College Walters Wellness Center in Highland, KS. The Career Fair is open to high school juniors and seniors. Meet local business leaders, learn about local careers and the road to get there. Local Northeast Kansas businesses have an opportunity to share with high school students what kinds of jobs they do, what it takes to work at their business and what kind of education or training they’ll need.
